This truly unique weeklong workshop seeks to take the photographer, artist, writer, poet or musician on a journey into developing not only a deeper connection to and understanding of the landscape, but more importantly developing a deeper understanding of their own photographic or creative practice through a process of immersion, reflection, refinement, mentoring, group learning and asking ourselves challenging and fundamental questions about our own work, perceptions and interpretations of what we create from and with.

"A whole week of photography! Just what I needed to get to grips with new camera. Rob & Karen are both great hosts and clearly love photography. The time spent away was both informative and a great laugh. Very relaxed, yet extremely productive time behind the camera.
I feel I have advanced further during that week than I have in several years of going it alone.
Recommend to all."
Over the course of the week we will take a unique approach to the workshop concept in that we will focus our attention on a single location allowing us to seek our own connections to the landscape we are photographing or creating from. We will seek to uncover the essence of place and reflect on and ask questions of ourselves about how we might truly tell a visual story with a deeper narrative. Our location will be the iconic South Gare in the mouth of the river Tees on Teesside. Although there is the well known area of this human impacted landscape that is Paddy's Hole; the area itself is vast, dynamic, complex and an absolute goldmine for developing a body of work with narrative which may draw on the history, heritage, human interaction and ecological perspective of this truly unique environment. Our approach will be one of developing skills around visual story telling and harnessing all of our senses to develop and tell complex stories about the landscapes we photograph or create from and the relationships they encompass. The workshop will provide you a toolkit to frame and shape your own work in the future.... it will give you a new way of looking and interpreting. As a means to explore the photographers / creatives own practice and develop a reflective approach to our work in the afternoon or evenings we'll be spending time exclusively with John and David deconstructing our work, sharing our thought processes and personal reflections as well as challenging ourselves to consider how our approach and photography / chosen art form may develop on a daily basis. John will be challenging guests to explore narrative and sequence in their work amongst his other focus and David will be specifically helping everyone develop a structured and developmental approach to talking and writing about their own work. You will leave the workshop with a much deeper appreciation of who you are creatively and feel more confident to take this forward and start the rest of the threads and unanswered questions on your own journey. The residential is for any photographer or creative who wants to dig deeper and immerse themselves in a more personal approach to their own work. Our accommodation is all SINGLE OCCUPANCY in an historic lodge / hall on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors, all meals are included either at the lodge (breakfast / lunch) or up at the Water Wheel Inn in the village (Liverton) where guests have free choice of the meal menus. The lodge is set in beautiful grounds so inside or our there is plenty of time and space for relaxation amongst the creative work across the week. All transport once on the workshop is included (luxury minibus) and we'll be able to ferry people up and down the Gare given the vastness of the area. Rob has vast knowledge of the area having photographed the area many hundreds of times and will be on hand to guide and help out on location. He is also an accredited Adobe Education Trainer so will be on hand for dedicated Adobe / Capture One / DXO Nik training or development sessions across the week as part of allowing photographers to shape their post processing vision. We will also be spending some time developing and printing our work across the week in readiness for the dedicated sessions with both John and David. Our paper supporters for the residential will be Fotospeed and we'll explore a range of their stunning papers through crafting our prints for specific paper output. The group dynamic and peer learning as well as the instructor led learning are a massively important part of the whole weeks learning and development experience. We truly believe this is a unique workshop which will draw on John Blakemore's and David Noble's vast experience and creative minds and the single location approach is something not seen since Paul Hill many years back. Ultimately this will be an investment in your own creative development with the additional support of two masters of their practice that will be transformational in your own creative journey.
