RK Photographic are based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, offering photography workshops, 1to1 and bespoke photography training to individuals and groups. We offer a range of on location workshops across the UK helping photographers of all abilities, experience and ages take their photography to the next level by not only enhancing their technical knowledge but by considering and reflecting on their style, creativity and vision as image makers. We are passionate outdoor / landscape photographers who love the process of working with the camera in the outstanding natural landscape our country blesses us with. We aim to make evocative and engaging images which demonstrate our connection with the subjects we photograph whilst making an emotional connection with the viewer.
Our teaching methods are designed to suite the learning style of our workshop students, we firmly believe in maximising the time in our sessions where students are applying theories and learning to create images rather than listening to us teach as the best light passes by. To achieve our goal of making the learning active and participatory we utilise a teaching methodology known as 'flipped learning' where we create engaging media and learning material that we provide our students ahead of the workshops with full support which allows our workshop students to learn some of the theory and technical pre-requisites in advance of the location workshop. Flipping the learning means we are able to spend more time on location on a 1to1 basis with our students helping them apply the technical skills practically to create the images they aspire to and ironing out any of the technical theory individually. This approach to teaching photography helps us spend more time with our students helping them consider and explore their creative vision.
Should you wish to know more about the 'flipped learning' methodology please have a look at the video below which presents flipped learning in it's traditional classroom context, here at RK Photographic we are keen to offer our workshop attendees the best and most valuable learning experience we can utilising proven and innovative teaching methods.

Rob loves to shoot landscapes and seascapes, being up for the best light early morning and watching the sunrise and dance across the landscape is a magical experience. Black & White is Rob’s specialty as he feels it conveys energy and mood in his style which is very much key in defining his personal vision. Rob works in both digital and medium format film, happy to utilise the appropriate kit to suite the mood, vision and creativity when photographing a location. The final image and personal creativity / vision being far more important than the brand of camera is a passion Rob firmly believes in and looks to instill into his students when helping them achieve their vision and improve their camera skills. Rob’s photography clients include Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, and Nottingham Trent University amongst others. His work has featured on book covers, magazines, poster campaigns and album covers for an American rock band. Rob has been teaching and running workshops for a number of years on a one to one basis with both the camera and in the digital darkroom. Rob and Karen are busy in driving the photographic workshops and are both extremely busy curating the current exhibition which is the seventh Rob has curated. They are both already planning for next year’s Patchings exhibition as well as a number of solo and collaborative projects.
Rob’s key driving ethos is in the passion of the photographer and not the name badge on the kit which is why he enjoys teaching and passing on the skills and experience he has acquired over the years. Rob is a very interactive teacher who enjoys working with other people and learning something new from their style along the way………. As he is a true believer in learning being a lifelong passion.
Rob is an accredited Adobe Education Trainer with extensive knowledge of Adobe products and learning & teaching theory at all levels and ages so you can be sure that your learning and development is at the heart of all our workshops and training.

Karen bought her first DSLR late 2008 on a whim, took it to Whitby and was hooked.
She lives in South Yorkshire, just, and with Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire being so close manages to travel between them all. Her favourite place to shoot is the seaside, loving the bracing air, the sea, the sand and very occasionally for the UK, the sun.
After a bit of persuasion from Rob, she joined the local camera club. In the first season she won four out of six monthly competitions and was joint first in the remaining two. She entered pictures in to the club’s annual exhibition and gained a first place, a second place and two third places. She also won the Beginners/Intermediate trophy in the mono prints section.
Since then she has been doing more of her own thing and shooting what she can, when she can. Karen spends much her photographic time organizing and helping Rob curate an annual collaborative exhibition at Patchings Art Centre in Nottingham, which is now into it's 8th year drawing collaborations from amateurs and pro's a like from Nottingham, all over the UK and across the world.
You can catch up with more of Karen's work on her Flickr stream. |
